Fear of the FBI hopes to make you respond to this identity theft email

As one of the not so lucky people affected by the Yahoo security break, my email in box and spam box get a lot more work than they used to and some of the plots, plans and scams make me laugh.  Other’s could cause a reader to rapidly respond out of fear.  One thing they all have in common, they are lying to me to get information.  Here is the most recent one you should know about and how you can know this email is fake when and if you get one.

You know it’s a fake when:
1) You know you don’t have any shipment coming, from Nigeria or any other place.
2) Nice, not quite round number – for some reason people respond better when the number is off like in this case 4.1 instead of 4 million dollars.
3) If you read carefully, you will notice several grammatical errors, not to mention no business correspondence, not even from our federal government would be written in all caps.
4) I’ve blocked the email address, but I can assure you it did not at any point have an FBI address.
Some other items to help you recognize that your 4.1 mill is fake include the fact that the message then turns to fear and intimidation to get you to respond.  At first it is all “Oh we have your money and we really want to give it to you but you just have to do this one little thing”  only to turn into and yeah if you don’t do it we will come after you and lock you away in a cell for all these crimes.   There is an intimidation factor at work here in addition to the other problems with the message.
Reading my email can be so much fun, can’t it?  And this one ended up in my in-box, you should see some of the ones I receive in my Spam email box.   Do you have an interesting email fraud message to share.
False/fradulent messages, especially those pretending to be from the government in the United States should be reported to http://www.ic3.gov/.
