Defender Pro, whose corporate headquarters is in New York, NY, is an antivirus software which offers two products for the home or small business computer, Defender Pro 15-1 and 5-1. Each product is good for up to three computers without any additional charge. Each product's antivirus software updates automatically on the hour, as long as you are connected to the Internet.

Read more about the cost, features, benefits and technical support for Defender Pro 15-1 and 5-1 Antivirus Protection Service.

The Defender Pro 15-1 product provides fifteen different services from anti virus and spyware protection; email services such as spam stopper and encryption; and hardware support such as defragging and PC recovery support systems. One unique service provided by the Defender Pro 15-1 product is the ability to "secretly" surf the internet, without leaving a trail, for example by blocking cookies and other tracking tools used by many websites. Another unique service that this product provides is the ability to detect websites that are scams or phishing website. Also, unlike some anti virus software products that include spyware protection, this product provides free updates to the spyware protection system. Lastly, it provides hard drive services for your computer that many other anti virus protection systems do not. Defender Pro 15-1 service may be purchased online for $49.99 and protects up to three computers for one year.

The second home and small business service offered is the 5-1 version. Defender Pro 5-1 features include anti virus, spyware protection, identity theft protection, firewalls and personal computer repair tools. As part of the protection services Defender Pro removes viruses from email and instant messages and protects your computer from invasion.

Defender Pro has partnered with Kapersky Labs, considered one of the global experts on personal and business computer protection. This partnership has provided Defender Pro with cutting edge technology in its anti virus and anti hacker systems and support.

Three types of technical support: frequently asked questions available online; email support; questions and problems are emailed to a customer or technical support specialist to be answered; and telephone support. The FAQ page was a little difficult to navigate and to find information. Some sections of the FAQ page did not contain any content. The email support is unlimited and without charge. Telephone support requires the use of your credit card, as there is a $9.99 per incident charge.

Defender-Pro also offers a general section on how you can protect yourself from computer viruses, spyware, malware, identity theft and other online risks as well as computer problems. Many of the suggestions include the use of a variety of Defender Pro products, however, they also provide useful information that does not entail the use of their products such as, store records in safe place, monitor your credit regularly, don't respond to emails you don't know and be careful where you visit on the internet.

If you are renewing your Defender Pro subscription you can do so for $19.99 for protection of up to three computers.

Some complaints have been made in the past regarding earlier versions of these products but many of the "kinks have been eliminated. The 2008 version of Defender Pro now provides support for Windows Vista and Windows XP operating systems. It is important to make sure that your computer has the proper system requirements, especially enough memory to utilize this software without making it run slowly.

Consumers should note that Defender Pro has several awards and recommendations. It has been named by PC World as one of the best products of 2007, an Editor's Choice product by CNET and comes with a 30 day money back guarantee.

Comments on Defender Pro Computer Protection Software and Defender Pro Antivirus: Product Review

I was really glad to hear they are recovering from their earlier problems. I believe they have a good product and just need to get back on the good side of their customers.

A virus of some sort was blocking my access to antivirus websites, so I bought this to alleviate the problem. Big mistake. The thing is like a virus in itself, keeping me from even shutting down my computer normally and refusing to accept my registration number. I'm even afraid to uninstall it, for the damage it'll do. May god help me.

Bought it tried it and returned it. Had to send it back to Defender Pro for ......hopefully a refund. Very disappointing antivirus. Can not remove all of it from my computer. Hangs around like a fly. Bought it at Walmart which they will not honor a refeund for it. So if you are unhappy with it, mail it back with a delivery confirmation.

If your running Windows xp with sp2 do not buy Defender Pro... it's junk. Defender Pro's support is terrible, causes win453 error as well as frequent crashes. There are no fixes for this bad process, complete waste of money. Defender Pro is junk.

Just bought the 15-in-1 Defender-pro 2008. The biggest mistake on software application that I made so far. Software doees not work. Hanged up my PC with vista operative system just after install it. I spent almost one hour to remove it and have it fully operational. Pro-defender web site customer service really does not provide any help. Both email addresses referenced in the support section do not work. I sent back the software for a refund. I will see if this work, or if it's a complete fraud and scam

I have defender-pro 15 and it never down loaded in my computer and I cannot contact any live person by phone or e-mail.They want me to pay 10$to speak to a person for their problem! I will never purchase their product again! You cannot treat consumers this way and expect them to stay loyal to your product.

This is the second time I purchased this software. I wasn't aware that DP was the cause of my first computer mother board going out. So I brought another one and haven't downloaded it to my new computer because I'm scared it will do something to this one too. I think the best way to go as far as antivirus programs is to use the ones that comes installed on the computer

Win453 error
I love Defender Pro! But after updating to the new version, I began to get this message when shutting down or logging off. If you are experiencing this error message when you try to shut down or log off your computer, it may not be caused by a virus or malware. If you are using the new version of Defender Pro Internet Security program (v. 6.0.2.621 or newer and possibly some older versions) this may be your problem. Defender Pro has acknowledged that there is a problem with their new version that causes the Win453 error on shut down or when logging off.
They are addressing the problem and plan to have it corrected in the next version.

Many solutions have been offered that only address the symptoms and not the problem. Some say that all you have to do is make sure you [Right-click] on the Defender Pro icon in the right corner of the task bar then select [Exit] and then shut down or log off. This does work (most of the time) or when you remember.... But if you are like me you may just forget to do this and then you get the error message.
Some have said that all you have to do is [click] on the [End Now] button when the error message appears and that is all that is necessary. When I experienced this, I tried this and the message just popped-up again (and again, and again and again and again and again, etc. etc. etc.)

There is another solution which lets you log off or shut down without having to remember to exit the program or anything else. You can simply log off or shut down as you normally would.

The solution that I found requires editing the system registry. It is not hard to do but
you need to make sure you don't change anything else by mistake. If you are not sure you want to try this yourself you may want to get someone that has done this type of thing before. Also, Please note: THis worked for me on two computers that I own. I no longer have the error message on either computer and I DO NOT have to exit anything or remember anything before I shut down or log off.

HOWEVER, YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILTY FOR ANYTHING THAT MAY GO WRONG!
IF YOU SCREW SOMETHING UP BY MISTAKE OR ARE NOT SURE OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING.... DON'T DO THIS!

MAKE SURE YOU BACK-UP (EXPORT) YOUR REGISTRY FILE BEFORE ATTEMPTING! AGAIN, IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO THIS, DON'T TRY IT YOURSELF. I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS.

If you wish to continue or have someone that will do it for you, it is a relatively easy process

Here is what you do:

Select the Start button in the lower left corner of the taskbar and the select RUN from the menu.
type in regedit and press [ENTER] or [click] the [Okay] button.

The registry will appear in two columns

In the left column find the item that says HKEY_CURRENT-USER and click on the plus (+) sign.

Now find the item Contro Panel and [click] on the plus (+) in front of it.
Now find the item Desktop and [click] on it once.

Now in the RIGHT column find the item titled AutoEndTasks and [Double-click] it.
Change the value that appears in the Value Data field from the 0 (Zero) to a 1 (one).

Go up to the menu and choose File and then Exit.

That's all there is to it!

Re-start your computer. Don't forget to Exit out of Defender Pro as stated above (for the last time).

After the computer re-starts the new registry value will be in effect and you will no longer
get the Win453 error.

If your Value Data field already contains a 1 you may have an entirely different problem.
In this case DO NOT change anything. Simply [Exit] the Registry Editor.

I would assume that when Defender Pro comes out with the next version (or patch) that corrects this problem, you would want to change this value back to 0 (Zero).

This solution worked great for me on 2 different computer systems. One a desktop running Windows XP Professional and a notebook running Windows XP Home.

Hope this helps!

I have used defender pro since the 2005 version and have been happy with it. This 2008 version sucks.

I installed the 2008 suite on one computer and it went fine with the online activation and update. When I rebooted it asked for an activation code and will not go and further.

Now the computer is useless, I can't remove defender and I can't even format the hard drive.

I installed it on two other computers and now I can't open the links once I go to a web page on either computer. And by the way I get the win453 error now. Don't buy this until it is fixed.

I agree with some of the negative comments - first of all, tech support is BAD. Also, the win453 error message is a pain. I have the 5in1 version but the Spyware will not work so I have a 4in1. Also, when you load this software, it is supposed to give you free updates for 1 year, but it is only 11 months - anyone notice??
Anyway, I like DefenderPro for the money, but a lot of tweeking is yet to be done before it can compare to competitors.

I purchased the Defender Pro 2008 5 in 1, and my computer has been acting up every since I put it on there, I cannot delete it, it is junk, it has made my computer useless! I paid 20 bucks for it, and they wanna charge 10 bucks just for tech support and that is not a guarantee that they can get it off the computer either, I will never purchase a Defender Pro product again after this experience, the sad thing is I put it on another computer as well, big mistake! If anyone out there knows how to get this crap off, let me know!!

How I got rid of Defender Pro 15 in 1

I tried EVERY suggestion on line that I could find.. Nothing worked..
So, this is what I did, By far the easiest way, and you wont have to explain the nasty words that came out of your mouth to a 3 and 4 year old!
Start in “Safe Mode” Go to start > My computer > Local C > Program folder > Defender Pro DELETE it..
While still in safe mode Search ALL of your computer delete anything found with defender pro on it, you have to look in hidden and system folders also.. While still in safe mode empty trash! Reboot and do a registry sweep. I used RegCure..and ran it 4 times! Reboot again. All should be gone! It does take time but believe me, a lot less Aspirin! Plus you don’t have to explain the Nasty words you used!

After having several problems with Norton(ie its gotten corrupted twice from updating itself) I decided to switch to Defender Pro, as a computer expert I can say I'm quite pleased over all. It does waaaaaay more than Norton 08 does and it actually tells me when my computer is being attack unlike Norton that haves serious issues detecting anything from port 443. I've heard the stories that it has a trojan, but I call it BS. The only complaint I have is a Win 453 shut down problem. But hey just push end now twice and it all goes away. One more thing, don't believe any of these problmes that other people are saying, I can guarantee that they are over exaggerating like most people when something doesnt go their way. All in all I give Defender Pro 7/10, by the way I'd give Norton a 5/10.

You say you are a computer expert, and you think Defernder Pro is a good anti-virus program. I cant say if it is or not.. My problem was I could not get it loaded It kept giving me a message of: Installation error Prematurely interrupted, or something along those linesWhat made me uneasy is the fact I could not uninstall and try the load again I e-mailed the support for the program after the second attempt, I am still am waiting for their reply.. After searching the net for an answer, WOW all the complaints on it! It took me over 2 days to figure out how to get rid of it myself. That in it self made me start looking for another product. I to had Norton 360 but when my son had a problem they would not even talk to him till he paid $99.00.. Some support! I did all that was required, I removed all traces of Norton, even after I used Nortons removal tool by doing a full computer search for any remaining specs of Norton. Found nothing so tried to install Defender pro 15 in 1...It flat will not loadWhat else can be done? Is this program only for computer experts? I am no dummy to them but by far NOT an expert!

I have just recently purchased and loaded onto my computer the defender pro 5-1 08. I used the 07 version on 3 computers all of last year and never had a problem with it. This year I loaded it onto my brand new laptop and my old laptop and I am not able to open my email inboxes or links on most web pages. And this is on both computers. It doesnt work even after I uninstall all defender pro programs. They have a "solution" on their website but it does not work for s**t. I get to the part on the solution where it says "download the zip file attached to this email address" ?????? there is not email address there or link to no zip file. I have not been able to check my emails for like two weeks now does any one have any solutions for me??

Although Defender Pro 2008 can be annoying and customer support is weak, it is actually a re-packaged copy of the highly rated (and expensive) Kaspersky Internet Security 6 suite. I had the Win453 error but solved it with the update on the Defender Pro web site. To avoid a permissions conflict when uninstalling, right click the red "DP" taksbar icon and choose "Exit" before uninstalling . You can configure the firewall and pro-active defense modules to be much less annoying--READ THE "HELP" SCREENS! I also had trouble with slow scheduled scans, but traced that to a huge Outlook archive file.

I bought the 2008 version at Wal-Mart after clerk gave good comments. The only thing good about it is it's cheap, but not worth buying at all.

It slows my computer down even though I've triple checked the registry and crossed file path possibilities, and run adware checks. A little adware program I ran found lots of adware and even three clicker Trojans and removed them after Defender Pro missed them!
Get a $ 40.00 Spysweeper and be done with it. My old copy of Spysweeper once detected and removed a major internet hijacker program out of a puter. It's a webroot type antispyware.

When I was playing a rated game online Defender Pro began a scan while my clock was running and blanked out the screen!!! I found no way to press a stop scan button without hunting up passwords and completely shutting it off with no protection. This is too much.

I bought Defender pro, thinking it was a good system to defend my computer. Since then DP has crashed my computer twice, wiped out some of my original files, will not let me add programs, and deletes my files without asking. I would not recomend this product to anyone. Of course, if you want your computer to crash, then go ahead and buy Defender Pro.

Ugh. I wish I would have found this site. My computer had tons of virus's and trojans on it. So I went to walmart and was looking around. I was going to by another program for $29.95 but my boyfriend pointed out that Defender Pro 5 in 1 does the exact same thing for only $20.00. So I thought it was a heck of a deal. Well first, defender pro completely deleted everything without asking. So the only way I could get anywhere was to press CTRL-ALT-DELETE, New Task, then browse through tasks. Now it wont even let me log into my name. I have Windows XP. Everytime I try logging onto my account it says Logging on, then it automatically says Logging off and saving settings. I have no idea how to fix it if it wont log on. Anybody have any ideas?
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

I have not had serious issues with defender 5-in-1 (my computer still works), although my computer processing time has slowed down because the stupid thing is doing a scan almost CONSTANTLY! I keep lowering scheduled scans and changing settings hoping to have a break. I think all these functions are overkill. I have used Norton the last couple years, and someone said this software does more than Norton, yeah but I think its a bit much. I only bought this because Walmart was out of Norton. I will pay the $40 versus $20 for Norton next year, because this software is annoying and I can not find a simple way to shut off a scan once it starts!
